Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

DRAFT - not legal advice; pending attorney review before publication.

Effective Date: October 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information KickOff ("KickOff," "we," "our," or "us") collects when you use the KickOff mobile application and related services (the "Service"), how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.

This Policy is part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service. The published version of this Policy is available at https://kickoffgames.net/legal/privacy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect the information you provide, including:

  • your email address;
  • your password (stored and processed by our authentication provider, Firebase Authentication);
  • your display name; and
  • the sign-in method you use (email and password, Google, Apple, or Facebook).

Profile information

We collect profile details you choose to provide, including:

  • a username;
  • a phone number (optional);
  • an address or location (optional);
  • your preferred playing position and skill level; and
  • a profile photo you upload.

Information from third-party sign-in

If you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, that provider shares with us basic profile information needed to create your account, such as your name and email address. We use this information only to authenticate you and populate your profile.

Location information

If you grant location permission, we collect your device's approximate location (latitude and longitude) using your device's location services. We use this location to show you games near you ("near-me" search); to do this, your coordinates are transmitted to our backend. You can use the Service without granting location permission, in which case you will not receive location-based search results.

When you search for a venue or address, your search text is sent to a third-party geocoding provider to resolve it to a location. We use Komoot Photon (an OpenStreetMap-based geocoder) for this purpose.

Game and participation data

We collect information about the games you create, join, or participate in, including:

  • games you organize, including the venue, time, skill level, and capacity you specify;
  • your join requests and waitlist positions for games; and
  • your attendance and participation status for games.

Messages

We collect the messages you send through the Service, including direct messages to other users and messages and comments you post about games.

Device and push notification data

If you enable notifications, we collect a device push token and limited device information (such as your platform and notification permission status) so we can send you notifications about game updates, messages, and other activity you opt into.

Payment information

Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, Stripe. When you pay to join a paid game or add funds to your in-app wallet, your payment card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe; KickOff does not receive or store your full payment card number.

KickOff stores limited payment-related records necessary to operate the Service, such as a Stripe customer identifier, transaction and refund records, your wallet balance, and (for game organizers) your connected payout account reference.

Information collected automatically

We collect limited technical information as part of operating the Service, such as the pages or screens you view and basic error and diagnostic information, to the extent provided by our infrastructure providers.

We do not currently collect advertising identifiers or use third-party advertising analytics, and we do not sell your personal information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • create and maintain your account and authenticate you;
  • provide, operate, and improve the Service;
  • let you discover, create, join, and coordinate soccer games;
  • let you message and interact with other users;
  • send you notifications you have opted into;
  • process payments and refunds for paid games;
  • respond to your requests and provide customer support;
  • enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety and integrity of the Service; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process your information on the following grounds:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide the Service you request, including creating your account, facilitating games and messaging, and processing payments.
  • Consent: where you grant permission, such as for location access or push notifications. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, and improve the Service, and to protect our users, in ways that do not override your privacy rights.
  • Legal obligation: to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

4. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only as described below:

  • Service providers. We use third-party providers to operate the Service, including Google/Firebase for authentication, data storage, hosting, and push notifications, and Stripe for payment processing. These providers process information on our behalf under agreements that limit their use to providing the services.
  • Mapping and geocoding providers. When you search for a venue or address, we share your search text with a geocoding provider (Komoot Photon) to resolve it to a location.
  • Sign-in providers. If you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, we interact with that provider to authenticate you in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Other users. Information you make part of your public profile (such as your display name, username, and profile photo) and your participation in games and messages are visible to other users as part of how the Service works.
  • App stores. Your download and use of the app is also subject to the terms and privacy practices of the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of KickOff, our users, or others, or to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as long as needed to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this Policy.

We retain information for legitimate business or legal reasons, such as:

  • transaction and payment records, which we may retain as required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, or legal compliance; and
  • information needed to enforce our Terms or resolve disputes.

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls on our backend, and storage provider security. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

KickOff is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are at least 13 but under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the consent and involvement of a parent or legal guardian, as described in our Terms of Service.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email address in Section 11, and we will take steps to delete that information.

8. Account Deletion and Your Data

You can ask us to delete your account and your personal information by contacting us at the email address in Section 11.

When you delete your account, we delete your profile information and other personal information associated with your account, subject to the exceptions below.

We may briefly retain or retain in limited form certain information where necessary to:

  • complete pending transactions or provide a refund you are owed;
  • comply with legal obligations (for example, retaining payment or tax records for the required period);
  • detect, prevent, or investigate fraud or abuse of the Service; or
  • resolve disputes or enforce our Terms.

Some copies of your information may persist for a limited time in our backup or operational systems before being fully removed.

9. Your Choices

You have choices about your information, including:

  • Location: You can decline location permission when prompted, or revoke it later in your device settings. Without location permission, location-based search will not be available, but you can still use the rest of the Service.
  • Notifications: You can decline push notifications when prompted, or manage them later in your device settings and, where available, in your in-app notification preferences.
  • Profile information: You can edit or remove profile details (such as your display name, phone number, address, preferred position, skill level, and profile photo) through your profile settings.
  • Account deletion: You can request deletion of your account and personal information as described in Section 8.
  • Sign-in providers: If you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, you can manage the information those providers share with us through that provider's settings.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under applicable law, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address in Section 11.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by other reasonable means, and will update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Policy takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy, to the extent permitted by law.
